The Departments of Mathematics and Physics and Astronomy announce the creation of a memorial lectureship in honor of Clasine Van Winter (1929-2000), emeritus Professor of Mathematics and Physics who held a joint appointment in the two departments from 1968 until her retirement in 1999. Dr. Van Winter was known for her pioneering work on the spectral and scattering theory of multi-particle quantum systems and related areas of mathematical physics.

Each year, an outstanding researcher in Mathematical Physics is invited to give a one-hour colloquium lecture jointly sponsored by the two departments. Selection of the visiting lecturer is made by the department chairs in consultation with the faculties of the two departments. The Van Winter Lecturer has travel and local expenses supported by the two departments and in addition receives an honorarium from an endowment fund for this lectureship.
