Text: Applied Finite Mathematics, 7th Ed., by S. T. Tan
Outline of Content:  Linear Equation and Models, Chapters 1 and 2 ; Linear Optimization, Chapters 3, 4; Business Math, Chapter 5; Counting Principles and Probability, Chapters 6 and 7
Course Goals:  This course covers topics that have wide applicability: linear equations and models, linear optimization and business math, counting principles, and probability. Your goal for the course is to learn these topics well enough that you can confidently use them to solve problems that occur on the homework and exams.  You should work to achieve a level of understanding that will enable you to apply your knowledge to settings beyond this course.

Exam Schedule:   There will be three 2 hour midterm examinations:  All are on Mondays from 5 to 7 pm in CB 106. The dates are September 24, October 15, November 5.
Final Exam    The final exam is on Friday  December 14 from 8 to 10 am.  It is a comprehensive exam.
Alternative time for Midterm Exams is from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the exam days. You must apply in writing by class time by Wednesday preceding the midterm. Click here for the form  There is no Alternative Final Exam time!
Homework: You will get your homework assignments and submit the answers you work out using the online homework system at http://www.mathclass.org. You will automatically be registered in mathclass within a day of enrolling in the class.  It is a good to print the homework and work out the answers by hand, then log back into mathclass and submit your answers. If you miss a problem, you can rework it and submit your answer again for full credit, until the deadline, usually midnight on Tuesday.  Submissions after the deadline are not recorded.
Grading and exams:  Each of the four exams is 20%.  Homework is worth 10%.  Recitation is 10%. Grades are determined on the scale: 90-100% A, 80-89.9% B, 70-79.9% C,  60-69.9% D and otherwise E.
Behavior:   Everyone is  expected to come to class on time and show respect for others in the class. Do not talk unnecessarily during class. All cell phones must be off during class. Do not leave class early except in an emergency.  I encourage you to study together and work on the common version of the homework, but answers to your personal homework and all exam work that you submit must be your own.  Cheaters will be punished following University regulations: see here
Advice:  Apply good study skills from the start. Come to class, read the text and do the homework on time. Form study groups with classmates. Seek help without delay if you have trouble.
