Office Hours & Homework Help

In order to succeed in this course you should ask lots of questions. There are several ways that you can get help with the materials.

  1. Use Piazza if you have a general question about how a homework problem. You can either post it as a new problem or see if someone already posted a question on the same problem. Since Piazza benefits the whole class, questions posted to Piazza will be prioritized by the instructors. Most math questions should be submitted via Piazza. Please see the Piazza page for more information.
  2. You can also use the email your instructor button in WeBWorK if you have a very specific or technical homework question. (Please check Piazza first before using this method.)
  3. For general questions about course policies, email Alex using Emails will be responded to within 24 hours.

Regardless of how you choose to ask for help, here are some guidelines to help you ask. Rather than exclaiming you are stuck or tried something a million times, instead please try and explain what you attempted to do.
For instance, I used the power rule to take the derivative and then plugged in x=1. I got y=2.
This helps your instructor to figure out whether it is a concept you're missing or an arithmetic error etc. Then your instructor can offer guidance to help you arrive at the correct answer.
Please be aware that your instructor will not just give you the answer. By learning where you are having difficulties and then offering step-by-step guidance, you will learn how to go further, which will greatly help you prepare for the exams and future learning.
