The two week program will consist of seven mini-courses
(school)
during the first week and advanced research talks
(international workshop)
during the second week.
The courses will bring junior researchers up-to-speed in the more
specialized topics that will be the focus of the advanced lectures and
will contribute to the training of young researchers from North and South
America in a timely atmosphere of international collaboration.
About the school:
Mathematicians from the Americas at the peridoctoral stage (meaning those
who are close to finishing the doctorate or have recently finished)
attending the school will be fully supported through funds made available
by the National Science Foundation via the PASI program.
These junior mathematicians will be selected
after a careful screening process (see the online application page for details;
application deadline: March 15, 2009).
The school will feature seven instructional courses on fundamental
techniques in Commutative Algebra and related fields.
Every course will consist of four lectures given by the following leading
experts:
About the international workshop:
The lectures presented at the conference will detail recent developments
in Commutative Algebra, emphasizing the connection with Algebraic Geometry,
Combinatorics and Computer Algebra. In addition, there will be shorter talks
by junior mathematicians from developing countries on their ongoing research.
The conference will be an occasion to honor
Wolmer Vasconcelos of Rutgers University, one of
the most distinguished senior commutative algebraists and a member of
the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He grew up in the vicinity of Recife,
where he also received his undergraduate education.
These events are supported
by funds made available from the following sources:
CAPES;
CNPq;
FACEPE (State Foundation of Pernambuco);
National Science Foundation
(NSF),
through the grant NSF-OISE 0819049;
Millenium Program;
Third World Academy of Science (TWAS).
