of the area of a parabolic segment. Calculus makes this a tedious, but
straightforward computation.

I assigned this problem, I discovered that no human can complete the
square correctly when a is not 1. Thus, I will make the following
offer: solve this problem in the special case a=1 and receive full
credit or solve this problem for all nonzero a and receive extra
credit. Indicate clearly on your paper which option you are choosing.
