Abstract:

Kashiwara and Lusztig independently introduced the "dual canonical" (or "crystal") basis for the quantum coordinate ring of SL_n. While this basis has nice representation theoretic properties, it has no known concise description. We will discuss an improved description of the basis which has led to recent results in combinatorics, algebraic geometry, and representation theory, and which links the basis to known results in these areas.
