Mapping Users and Groups

SFU Server for NFS allows you to map between UNIX user identifiers (UIDs) and group identifiers (GIDs) and Windows NT users and groups. On an NFS network with UNIX servers supporting multiple users, a Windows NT administrator will find it necessary to use Windows NT users and groups to enhance security, track where resources are mounted, and locate file locks for clients on the NFS network. If the administrator elects to not map users and groups, all users accessing SFU Server for NFS shares will appear as anonymous users and groups.

When a UNIX user accesses the SFU Server for NFS share, SFU has the ability to convert UNIX UIDs and GIDs to or from Windows NT users and groups. SFU Server for NFS User Manager establishes how UNIX UIDs and GIDs are mapped to Windows NT users and groups, sets the mapping refresh time and interval, and controls automatic mappings.
