The final is now available off of the class web page or at the following URL: http://www.ate.uky.edu/~chaney/final.html 1. The final is due in one week, 4 hours (This Thursday, 4:00 PM). 2. Each question is worth ten points and there are two extra credit questions, each worth 3 points. 3. Your answers should be sent to ma194@ms.uky.edu with the subject line "MA194 FINAL" 4. If you have questions during the the week, please feel free to get in touch with me. Updates/corrections to the final will be announced on this mailing list, so check it sporadically. Some of my typos in the past have been fairly significant. :-) NOTE! 5. I will not make office hours this week (I have a final of my own that evening so I wouldn't be much help anyway). However, I expect I'll be in the office a fair amount anyway. I'll officially be there tomorrow from 1 to 2, to make up for missing Monday. If you need to schedule additional time, let me know. Okay, now, about this final. Question 1 is kinda generic, question 2 talks about different addressing methods available on the Internet. Question 3, 4 and 5 are based on typical user problems, so experienced Unix Users such as yourself should have no problem there. Number 6 is a lookup and pontificate problem, though you should use your own files (/usr/spool/mail/youraccount) instead of mine. Question 7 is the one everyone is dreading, but I doubt it will be all that bad, unless I've made a critical typo in the shell script (See #4, above). Question 8 is an example of not having enough questions for a final, this should be a free 10 points :-) Question 9 is almost an essay question. Feel free to answer all 4 points within one or two paragraphs, so long as you convey to me your complete and total understanding of the nuances of networking PCs to the Internet over phone lines. Question 10 is an example from an earlier class, with a few twists, but I suspect a few minutes with the man page and careful consideration of the output should make this one another no-brainer. The extra credit questions will be graded a little rougher than 1-10, so make sure your answers are thorough. Good luck and thanks. Have a good summer break.... -dan
